Rev. Avery Eugene Turley, 71, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and servant of the Lord, of Rutledge, was called to glory peacefully in his home Sunday, March 5, 2017. Avery announced his calling to preach in 1976 and was ordained in 1980. He pastored Tampico Baptist Church in Rutledge for 13 years. For the last 8 years he pastored the precious congregation at Mansfield Gap Baptist Church. Avery was also given the opportunity to teach Auto Mechanics at Grainger County High School; and was well known for his boisterous laugh, his beautiful singing voice, and his time as an Elvis impersonator. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Bertha Turley; sister, Morine Turley Hodge; brothers, R.N., Amos, Norman, Don, and Andy Turley. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Wanda; his daughters, Angela (Eric) Warren, Pamela (Kenneth) Owens, and Linda (Rick) Mabe; 8 grandchildren, Haven, Amity, Winter, and Aidan Warren, Dalton and Tristan Owens, and Leigha and Samuel Mabe. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Ann Ellison, Carolyn (Jack) Morgan and Florine (Bill) Watson; brothers, Harold and Ellis (Judy) Turley; sister-in-laws and brothers-in-law, Mrs. Norma Wilmoth, Doug and Mary Jane Dalton, Johnny and Nancy Dalton; several special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors and nurses of UT Hospital for taking such good care of their loved one. They also appreciate the loving care given by UT Medical Center Hospice Services. The family will receive friends 4:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Smith-Reagan Funeral Home in Rutledge. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Mansfield Gap Baptist Church at 1451 Talbott-Kansas Road, Jefferson City with Rev. Eric Warren officiating. Interment to follow in Blue Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Rutledge. Pallbearers will be son-in-laws and his grandsons. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be given to The Gideons International in order to purchase Bibles in memory of Avery.

Rev Avery Turley will be deeply missed i so enjoyed his talks with us at the senior citizen center in Rutledge.. He always had a smile on his face and could brighten your day if you was feeling down.My deepest sympathies goes out to his family he was a true man of god and a great friend.
