Rev. Delmer James Welch, age 89, was born June 21, 1930, and departed this life Saturday, January 18, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family. He was saved at 16 years old and was a life-long member of Beech Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He was ordained into the ministry in 1965, and was also the bass singer for the Beech Grove Quartet for many years. He was a farmer by trade, and a friend to all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Authur and Lillie Welch, brother Elmer Welch, sisters Bethel Bullen, Ethel Wolfe Bullen, Eulah Welch, Lou Ella Welch, and Rosemary Prince; daughter-in-law Charlotte Welch, and great-granddaughter Victoria Welch.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years Edna Welch; sons and their wives, Jerry (Debbie) Welch, Gary Welch, Lance (Lillie) Welch, Rev. Lyndall (Betty) Welch, and Rev. Lowell (Becky) Welch; eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; brother Dallas Welch, and sister Vennie Ruth Winstead; several nieces, nephews, and a great host of other relatives and friends, and special caregiver Brenda Dalton.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 9:00 pm on Monday, January 20, 2020, at Smith-Reagan Funeral Home in Rutledge.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at Beech Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Thorn Hill, with Graveside services and interment to follow at McGinnis-Harrell Cemetery. Rev. Chuckie Beeler, Rev. Keith Carpenter, Rev. Fred Reed, Rev. Clifton Wilmoth, and Rev. Johnny Myers will officiate the services. Music will be sung by the Dalton family.
Pallbearers will be Kenny Scearce, J.H. Dalton, Shane Collins, Greg Nicely, Jordan McGinnis, and Rick McGinnis. Honorary pallbearers will be James Welch, Dustin Welch, Jason Welch, Jason Wallace, Daniel Trent, Brian McMillan, and all ordained ministers and deacons.
