Sammy R. Owens, 77, of Rutledge, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2021. He was a Vietnam Veteran and recently received the Quilt of Valor for his services. Sammy proudly served his community in the Rutledge Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years. Sammy will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy & Helen Owens; and brother, Robert “Bobby” Owens.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Joyce Owens; son, Michael Owens; daughters, Pamela (Bill) Duncan and Jamie (Jayme) Dalton; grandchildren, Nicholas, Natalie, William, Savannah, Leah, Rachel, Jayme Jr., and Braxton; brother, Billy (Nancy) Owens; sisters, Clara (Billy Joe) Rainwater and Mary Dawn Buckner; half-sister, Barbara Huckabee; sister-in-law, Linda Owens; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may stop by Smith-Reagan Funeral Home at their convenience on Friday, February 12, 2021, from noon – 5pm.
Family will receive friends on Friday, February 12, 2021, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm with a funeral service to follow at 7:00pm with Rev. Scott Howerton and Rev. George Miller officiating.
Friends and family will meet at Smith-Reagan Funeral Home at 10:45am on Saturday, February 13, 2021, and proceed to Sunrise Baptist Church Cemetery for a noon graveside service with full military honors.
